Family History

I took a few fairly large leaps of faith to come to this marriage of Margaret Hamilton and George Gunning. I first started with a letter my grandmother had written my grandfather about 1906 in which she states she had visited the family of Jane Hamilton (Margaret's sister) and had been told that one of Jane's sisters had emigrated from Scotland and was settled in New Jersey. It took a while to determine that the sister was Margaret as the family was large. Next came an email from Jane Adams with an attachment that included the statement that Margaret's second husband was a man named George Gunning, born in the USA, and there was a daughter Jeanette. Because Margaret would have been in her late 40s when she married George and because in the census records I found for this family in New Jersey the daughter Jeanette was born in Scotland, I concluded that perhaps Margaret was George's second wife and Jeanette the daughter of the first. It makes sense that Margaret would have possibly come as a widow with her son John who is known to have settled in Ohio in the same county as the marriage of Mrs. Margaret Dixon and George. I continue to look for confirmation that I have the right Gunning family though it all seems to fit with the letter and email I started off with.

There are far too many 'what ifs' and 'maybes' in this scenario for my liking so I continue to search for confirmation of this or other solutions. Any input or suggestions welcome.
